A chance encounter last month while displaying her race bike in a special tribute to women in motorsports display at the Johnson History Museum in West Palm Beach, Florida, led to Kim Morrell securing new sponsorship for her 2012 ADRL Pro Extreme Motorcycle (PXM) debut.

“I met a man there who knows Kevin Kendrick at Modified Asphalt Solutions up in Iowa and he told Kevin about me and we were able to put something together for the Houston race,” the 2010 PXM champion explains, referring to the ADRL season opener Mar. 30-31, at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas. “Right now it’s just for that race, but Kevin and some of his people are going to be there with me, so hopefully they’ll like what they see and we can do more in the future.”

Based in West Des Moines, Modified Asphalt Solutions (MAS) produces environmentally friendly ground-tire-rubber asphalt for major paving projects throughout the U.S. and internationally.

“Obviously the asphalt business is a real working-man, blue-collar-type atmosphere and we think it’s a good fit for the kind of racing that Kim is involved with,” says Kendrick, who also admits to being a motorcycle racing enthusiast. “Although I don’t own a bike right now, I’ve had them in the past and I never turn down an opportunity to go for a ride.”

Morrell will be riding the same Timblin Chassis-built Suzuki that she had last year, powered by a nitrous-boosted, 1800-cc John Sachs-built engine, but at the new 625-pound minimum weight mandated by the ADRL this year.

“We’re going testing this weekend at Palm Beach (International Raceway) and I can’t wait to get back on that thing,” Morrell declares. “I am so excited and so pumped up right now, I can’t wait for this season to start.”
