Pro Nitrous Power Rankings (After 4 of 8 Races)

RANK (LW) TEAM RECORD COMMENT

Mike Castellana

1 (6) Al-Anabi Racing 9-2 Despite a first-round loss at the previous race in Reading, Pennsylvania, Mike Castellana scored his second-consecutive Pro Nitrous event win at Topeka since the Reading event was eradicated by curfew restrictions. That alone may have been enough to put Castellana on top of the DragIllustrated.com Power Rankings, but he also included a personal-best 3.81 in the semis that also stood up as low ET for the event to cement the deal.

Mahana Al-Naemi

2 (3) Al-Anabi Racing 5-4 Qualify number one for the third straight event and go to the final like Mahana Al-Naemi did in Topeka and that’ll assure a high place in the DI.com Power Rankings. It seems like only a matter of time before the latest Al-Anabi protégé mentored by Shannon “The Iceman” Jenkins scores that big, break-through win.

Rickie Jones

3 (2) Quarter-Max Racing 5-4 Rickie Jones cut a great light and made his best run of the weekend in the semis at Topeka, but Mike Castellana made the best run of his ADRL career and that sent the former NHRA Pro Stocker back to the trailer. Still after qualifying 2nd, Jones continued to post the consistent results that are the true measure of power in the ADRL.

Burton Auxier

4 (4) Al-Anabi Racing 6-3 With a 4th-place start and semi-final finish at Topeka, defending class champ Burton Auxier continued his recovery from a rare DNQ at the Houston season opener. Another of the Al-Anabi gang, it will be interesting to see if Auxier can maintain his frontrunner status after his funding may have been affected by recent cut backs to the team.

Khalid Al-Balooshi

5 (1) Al-Anabi Racing 7-1 At the previous race in Reading, Khalid Al-Balooshi turned in the first 200-mph-plus run in eighth-mile doorslammer racing (200.38) and though opting out of competing in Topeka, he still held the points lead when the event was over, proving you don’t always have to be there to still have the power!

Bob Rahaim

6 (5) Rahaim Racing 3-3 Coming off a career-best outing at Reading was Bob Rahaim, who qualified 5th at Topeka and ran decent numbers in getting past Blake Housley before falling to Burton Auxier by a couple of hundredths in round two. Rahaim’s race-day reaction times were a little off, however, so he’ll need to do better in that respect to have any long-term effect on the class.

Jeff Naiser

7 (7) NRC Racing 2-3 After sitting out the Reading event, Jeff Naiser had a good start to his Topeka outing, qualifying in the number three position. He lucked out with a win over Pat Stoken after both had car trouble in round one, but another off-the-pace pass against Mike Castellana in round two ended his day early. Naiser can be fast, but the consistency just doesn’t seem to be quite there yet.

John DeCerbo

8 (8) John DeCerbo Racing 4-4 John DeCerbo holds on to his 8th-place position in the DI.com Power Rankings by qualifying in the top half of the field (7th) at Topeka. DeCerbo had a fortunate freebie in round one of racing when his car got a little out of shape after Stan Allen broke before staging, but he recovered to post the quickest time of the non-winners in round two.

Jim Laurita

9 (NR) Laurita Motorsports 0-3 Making his first appearance in the DragIllustrated.com Power Rankings is Jim Laurita, who stepped up from his 13th-place qualifying time with a more than 22-hundredths improvement to 4.00 seconds to be quickest among the first-round runners up. Laurita is still looking for a round win after DNQing at the season opener this year, but he does have one class win to his credit, so given the right circumstances he’s proven he can go farther than what his record might suggest.

Robert Mathis

10 (NR) Mathis Motorsports 1-2 Ninth-place starter Robert Mathis gets the nod over 8th-place man Dave Pierce for the 10th and final spot on the DI.com Power Rankings list because he won a tight first-round match between the two by less than a car length. He shook and had to lift against Al-Naemi in round two, but it’s always good to get the first round win of the year out of the way.

LOL! Neither of those guys competed in the ADRL event in Houston, Texas this year. We're rating the drivers that raced in the event. This isn't an all-time Top 10 list.

  3. Maurice Henderson says:
