ADRL Extreme 10.5 Power Rankings

Extreme 10.5 Power Rankings (After 4 of 8 Races)

RANK (LW) TEAM RECORD COMMENT

Dan Millen

1 (2) Al-Anabi Racing 7-2 It’s hard to believe, but defending Extreme 10.5 champ Dan Millen had never won a regular-season ADRL race before prevailing in the final round at Topeka over Lamar Swindoll Jr. Winning from the pole position, Millen also set low ET for the weekend and in the process vaulted to the top of the points list and DragIllustrated.com’s Power Rankings, too.

Lamar Swindoll Jr.

2 (3) Al-Anabi Racing 7-3 After winning in Houston his first time out, Extreme 10.5 rookie Lamar Swindoll Jr. has proven to be the real deal. He followed up with a pair of semi-final finishes at West Palm Beach and Reading, Pennsylvania, before qualifying number two and going to the final again at Topeka. Swindoll went for a wild ride once there, however, as his twin-turboed Cavalier swapped lanes and only a masterful driving job kept all four corners on the car. Sometimes having the power isn’t just about ET and speed.

Frankie Taylor

3 (5) Taylor Motorsports 5-4 After qualifying third at Topeka, Frankie Taylor ran a pair of 3.98s in eliminations, making him the only XTF driver to join Millen in the 3-second zone. He fell to a holeshot by Swindoll in the semis, but clearly is among the most consistently powerful in the class.

Billy Glidden

4 (4) Billy Glidden Racing 6-3 Billy Glidden went to the final at each of the first two races and won in April at West Palm Beach, but a first-round exit after qualifying third at Reading and then starting fourth and suffering a damaged motor in the semis against Millen at Topeka has to be frustrating for the 2008 XTF class champion. Still, given the opportunity, Glidden remains a threat to win any round against any opponent and that’s enough to maintain his status in the DI.com Power Rankings.

Grant McCrary

5 (NR) FFI Racing 0-1 With so few Extreme 10.5 teams making it to all stops on the 2011 ADRL tour it allows new entries to place fairly high in the DI.com Power Rankings just by making an impressive debut. That certainly was the case for Grant McCrary, who after a nearly two-year layoff from competition, qualified his ex-Larry Morgan Pro Stock Stratus 7th at 4.18, but improved by more than a tenth to 4.07 in a first-round loss to fellow Texan Lamar Swindoll Jr.

Jim Widener

6 (8) Bischoff Racing 0-2 In only his second XTF appearance, Jim Widener started 5th in the 8-car field at Topeka, an improvement of two positions over his ADRL debut in Reading, Pennsylvania, a month earlier. He again lost in the opening round (to Billy Glidden), but showed some power by lowering his ET by a couple of hundredths under his 4.12 qualifying run.

Eric Stubbs

7 (NR) Whitman Racing 0-2 Driving the same ’63 Corvette that he steered for car owner Randy Whitman last year—though with a new twin-turbo motor up front—Eric Stubbs made his second XTF appearance of the year in Topeka and met with very similar results as his Houston season opener delivered. Stubbs qualified 8th, but an overabundance of power broke the rear tires loose in the opening round of eliminations against eventual race winner Dan Millen.

Todd Moyer

8 (7) Todd Moyer Racing 0-4 Poor Todd Moyer and crew. They have the car he drove last season running up front and contending for wins with Lamar Swindoll Jr. at the helm, but Moyer’s new twin-turboed ’63 Vette continues to fight their best efforts at every race. The troubling trend continued at Topeka, where Moyer missed the qualifying cut, this time plagued by a faulty rear shock absorber. Attending every race has kept Moyer in the DI.com Power Rankings so far, but if there were more XTF regulars on the 2011 ADRL tour, he’d no doubt have dropped off a long time ago.
